Entertaining Tips:

Setting the Scene

When entertaining, a few thoughtful touches can make guests feel truly welcomed into your home.

  • Call on candles or soft lighting to create warmth; avoid scented candles that may clash with the food you serve.
  • Whether tied to the season, linked to the occasion, or an expression of your own creativity, centerpieces add a festive note. Just be sure they're not so tall that guests can't see around them.
  • Music can add to the mood. Keep it at a volume that allows guests to converse comfortably.
  • Monitor guests' comfort throughout the evening. You may have had your heart set on serving guests on the deck, for example, but if the evening turns chilly, move the party indoors.
  • If you serve alcoholic beverages, always have a non-alcoholic drink or two on hand. Never press a guest who declines an alcoholic beverage.

I am so jealous of all of you! I have been an active volunteer and team leader for our local Komen Affiliate for a couple of years. My daughter (age 9) and I have organized a team to do the Race for the Cure of her girl scout troop and their moms this Saturday morning. It would have been absolutely perfect following the Race to host this party. I'm hosting the Cartoon Network party, but if you read the blog posts, theres a lot of problems. So far most of us haven't received our party host packages yet and it's Thursday! Wishing all of you lots of PINK FUN and help us all to build awareness. Thanks to Better Homes and Gardens, House Party, and the sponsors for putting this important event together! THINK PINK!!!

I love the candles idea. I hadn't thought of that. It will definitely add to ambience of the party.

Everyone coming to the party is wearing pink and most of the food will have a pink theme...We are setting out pink cupcakes in the shape of a pink ribbon as a centerpiece. I am also doing goodie bags but the main thing I am putting in the goodie bag is a laminated copy of how to do a breast exam. I was hoping they would have been included in the kit for the guests.

The candles sound great. I will be doing the same thing. I plan on doing goody bags such as others said from the dollar tree and making some pink pins. our party is going to be small and intimate, with close friends and family. Everyone is bringing their favorite homemade dish with the receipe to share it with everyone else. We will talk, eat and relax!

I am using candles as door prizes at the bowl a thon with a pink ribbon sticker on the glass. I have them packed in some goodie bags from the dollar store. They are going to be playing 50 - 60 - 70 music while we bowl. I also made some pink ribbon pins out of pink ribbon and gold pins with flat backing and attached them to a card that says thank you on them. So far so good on my plans I just hope a lot of people show up for the event.

This is such a great time to relax & enjoy each others company. I will also set candles [unsented] thru out my table as a centerpiece. They are of diff. sizes but are all pink, I will also spread pink ribbon shaped conffettie around the candles. The cd which was included will be playing in the background thru out my house as i have it wired with speakers [low volumed so that it wont bother any1 while we talk & disscuss this great cause & our support for the cure. [I would like to let ppl know that if you would like to tell any of your guests {that dont get the chance to place an order for the cook book & the free yr of bhg mag, (for any reason)} that Wal-Mart has them for the same price ($20) & it also includes the free yr to the mag.

We like our house to smell nice, so we light scented candles before everyone arrives and turn on the music, so that when the first guest arrives, they feel like they are welcome instead of intruding.
